Being with others, being alone.

I dance

I dance slowly in the empty street
No one to see my show
No one to see who I am
No audience to applaud
I dance to empty air
Yet I dance
I dance for freedom
I dance for a voice unheard
Light footsteps slide across the truth
A tap dance in rhythm with so many dreams
A neighbour picks up the beat
Invitations go out by rhythmic steps
Steps multiply by word of mouth
A community dances the impromptu dance
A community dances the unknown
Together we dance for what was forgotten
Together we dance for hope
Together we dance
I dance slowly in the crowded street
No one sees my show
Yet I dance
