Have you ever been where you want to be, but can't be?

Memories of tomorrow

I long for what could be
I long for what could have been
My past is tied to the future
My future drifts in the cold blue of spring
The memories we live today
The reflection of yesterday
A cold lake in a meadow shows no mercy
Snow does not melt in the shadows of dead trees
The forest speeds past my window
This highway leads me to yesterday
My dying city passes in the distance
The abandoned buildings of my truth slowly crumble
I stand alone in the rubble wondering why
My memories have no more roots
My reasons for leaving are forgotten
The mist of questions rise slowly around me
Surrounded by regrets I surrender
I plant new smiles in old soil
Warily I water dreams
The dark soil slumbers
